    Brown University Department of Public Safety

    The Brown Department of Public Safety is a fully-accredited police department through the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), which administers a rigorous accreditation process whereby law enforcement agencies must adhere to over 440 standards, codes and state-of-the-art practices.

    Department of Public Safety/RI Municipal Police Academy

    The mission of the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy is to provide the best programs and services in support of the Rhode Island’s municipal law enforcement community on a fair and equitable basis statewide.

    To establish an effective management team for the administration of the training and education, and to bring to the forefront new programs to prepare the members of the municipal law enforcement community for the ever-changing roles and responsibilities they must assume to protect the lives, property, and environment of their communities.

    Each member of the Academy brings talent, skill, and dedication to their duties and responsibilities. It is the mission of the Academy to provide each member opportunities to share their talents and skills, and grow intellectually and professionally.

    Who Should Attend?

    Line, staff and administrative officers working in assignments for Community Policing Programs in any of the following types of agencies: Municipal Police Depts.; County Police/Sheriffs; State Police Depts.; Campus Police/Safety/Security; Federal Agencies; Transit/Port Authorities; Housing Police; School Resource Officers; Correctional Officers. As well, the staff and leadership of community organizations are welcome to attend. Workshops (except for those restricted to Members Only) are open to all law enforcement personnel.
