Cumulative Most Useful Parts of The Conference

• Addressing the need for black organizations to collaborate with each other and support.
• Information sharing and networking.
• The discussion on today’s issues most importantly the final day in the afternoon.
• The mental health presentation by Alaina Gay was engaging and informative. I also found the presentation by Dr. Boyd thought provoking and showed how the current policies affect policing.

Cumulative Least Useful Parts of The Conference and Recommendations For Improvement

• To keep participant engage if you have a person that have been a speaker multiple times and have no new information to present or the information has not been revised or innovated do something different. Have a contingency plan to keep the people engage maybe ask a question that people to break out the group. You bring up scenario different pockets to the room different than HR probation. In the breakout session have some challenging videos to bring on screen and have each group discuss and present their findings. It was obvious in the room their were many different opinions about a video shown to the audience and their were many opinions both good and bad. Time for dialogue would be a great opportunity instead of pulling in prepared presenters.
• Ensure presenters are aware that nonblack officers attend and ensure the focus is on how we collaborate with all and develop policies and best practices that serve to the common good of all.
• Too much time spent on past incidents such as things that happened in the 70s. Not relevant to today’s issues.
• I understand there were some cancelations by presenters which put pressure on NABLEO to find replacements last minute. Some of the presentations were 90 minute rants. Though the concerns were valid, there was no structure in presenting or solutions/suggestions on how to move forward.

Cumulative Suggested Training Topics

• First Aid Mental Health For Adults and Youths
• Developing leadership and building for succession.
• Issues on integrity, emotional wellness of law enforcement officers, growth and development of officers, and the importance of seeking promotional opportunities.
• I enjoyed the Women in law enforcement presentation but felt it was somewhat subjective to Captain Pruitt's experience. I think panel discussions would give a broader perspective as well as time for audience members to engage in groups to discuss their own experiences. Some other topics I'm interested in are how to be promoted within law enforcement, DV and officers, more mental health/suicide for active and retired officers.
